Beautiful Snow

We were inspired by the trees this morning while walking in the Legion Park and made our own winter trees using puffy snow paint.

First Day of 2016

Skating permission forms are being sent home today with students. Please fill out both forms and return by Thursday, January 7th. Our first skating day will be Friday, January 8th at 10:45 at the Centennial Arena. ALL students must bring their own CSA APPROVED HELMET to wear on the ice and skates must have a guard or be carried in a sturdy bag.  We are always looking for volunteers to help tie skates, please contact the school to let us know if you can volunteer.

KFC orders are also being sent home today with students and are due on Friday, January 8th. No late orders will be accepted.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday! School starts again on Monday (the break went by so quickly) and I wanted to remind everyone to bring back their inside shoes (some were in need of repair, a good cleaning and new laces) and water bottles.

We will be walking in the park first thing in the morning, so please dress for the weather conditions.  The sliding hill will soon be open, students will be made aware of the rules this week. Ski pants and warm winter clothing are a must if you are planning on sliding!

The skating schedule went home in the January Newsletter. We will be skating on Friday, January 8 from 10:45-11:45. A note will be going home this week to inform you of the rules and regulations. We are always looking for volunteers to help tie skates, join us at the rink!

Enjoy the last few days of holidays!

The Purple Cow

Today was the last day of our science unit on the 3 states of matter. We did an experiment which involved a solid (ice cream), a liquid and a gas (grape soda). The kids had a great time learning about the 3 states during the first term and were even more excited when they got to taste all three states mixed together.

 :) Yummy

Writer's Workshop

Over the last few days we have enjoyed what feels like typical winter weather. It inspired us to talk and write about snow and snowmen (or snow-people). Here you will see what happens in our writer's workshop. First, we brainstorm ideas as a whole class and write down some vocabulary about our topic. After brainstorming some possible sentence starters, we write for 10 minutes. Then, we share our writing with a partner who gives us a star and a wish. A star is something you really like about the writing and a wish is something you wish you knew more about the story. After everyone has had a chance to share, we go back to our desks and write again. We did this a few times over a few days before we started writing our first book of stories. We hope to finish publishing our first book tomorrow.

Here you will see some pictures of students sharing their stories with partners.
