Why We Walk

You might have asked yourself, "Why does my kid go for a walk in the morning?"

Walking is great! It gets us ready for the day and helps open our minds to learning.
Each day, weather permitting, we walk around the Legion Park which takes us approximately 25-30 minutes. This is a time to make connections with students, find out about their lives and sometimes what worries them or the struggles they might be facing that day. We talk about the changing seasons and build classroom connections.

Read the following article about one school that made physical activity a priority each morning.

Early morning activity boosts learning for students at Ridley College

“Just going for a brisk walk before school starts can make a huge difference in your awareness or recall and memory,”

Have a great day!

In our Daily 5 time, one of the stations is to Read to Self.

The goals are to..

* get started right away
* actively read (read the words)
* eyes on your own book
* stay in your spot
* no talking

The goal for September is to read for 5 minutes,
October's goal is to read for 10!
