Anxiety
Anxiety is a natural part of childhood that helps kids to learn to cope with and respond to the world around them. Children go through developmentally appropriate phases of anxiety. Babies, for instance, feel anxious around strangers, clinging more closely and more tightly to their parents when a new person is introduced. Toddlers often struggle through separation anxiety, while young children wrestle with imagined dangers like monsters or ghosts. As children get older, their anxieties reflect what's going on in their lives - test anxiety in school, fear of rejection by peers, social pressures, etc.

Mindfulness Activities
Mindfulness seems to be the buzzword these days...are you being mindful? What does that even mean? If I don't know what it is, how do I teach my kiddos about it? This article might help if you are curious about mindfulness. Try a few of these strategies at home. At school, we have been doing an activity called "Melting," the video on Go Noodle is very helpful in getting started. We do this particular activity after our workouts in the gym where there is more room. I then guide students through some calming meditation. See what works for you.

Guest Reader Schedule
Having students share stories out loud to an audience is a very powerful experience. After getting over the butterflies in the stomach and all the excitement, students learn some pretty important lessons from this experience. Starting today, students will take turns being our guest reader.
Students can bring in a favourite book from home or read a book that they have practiced reading at school. Pictures of our guest readers will be posted and shared on this blog and the Remind App.
