Terry Fox Walk

This morning we completed the Terry Fox walk.
Thank you to all the families who were able to join
us on such a beautiful day!

Reading Time

In our Daily 5 time, one of the stations is to Read to Self.

The goals are to..

* get started right away
* actively read (read the words)
* eyes on your own book
* stay in your spot
* no talking

The goal for September is to read for 5 minutes,
October's goal is to read for 10!

September Pictures

It has been such a great start to our school year, we've been so busy I'm now just able to catch up with some pictures from the month.

Scratch Garden

Have you heard your child talk about the Scratch Garden videos we have been watching at school?

Check them out here

Enjoy!

Some of our favourites so far are...

Goal Setting

Have you thought about talking to your child about their goals?
As adults, we set personal and professional goals to help us move forward. We understand that there are big steps and little steps along the road to success and we deal with setbacks as they arise.

You can help your child learn the skill of goal-setting, which is critical for developing grit and just simply getting what you want out of life.

Other reasons WHY your child should learn goal-setting include:
  • it teaches them to take responsibility for their own behaviors and learning
  • it promotes a “can-do” attitude
  • it forms a powerful lifelong habit
So how do you teach your kids set their own goals?

The 4 Proven Steps to Goal-Setting for Kids. This article incluldes two free printables for kids: "My Goal Think-Sheet" and "My Goals"

Learn more about goal setting here

This week, spend time with your child reflecting on the upcoming school year and what she would like to accomplish.
Follow these four steps to help your child set an effective and meaningful goal:
Step 1: Let your child choose her “big goal.”
Step 2: Discuss the purpose of your child’s goal.
Step 3: Break the big goal into smaller steps (and fill out a goal ladder!).
Step 4: Brainstorm potential obstacles, and make a plan for how you will address them.
And remember to put all of it in writing!
180 school days from now, you may be very pleased by both your child’s achievements and the life skills she’s developed by setting her goal and sticking to it.
